Information integration plays an important role in the educational environment since it provides a comprehensive view of educational data. The current information portal owned by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in Iraq often returns the users with a huge load of unorganized information. In order to address this problem we design and develop an ontology-based framework for supporting postgraduate information query at the portal of MOHE. This work uses a methodology adapted from Uschold and King to build the domain Ontology. A query system has been developed to validate the domain ontology for its correctness, usefulness and consistency. The ontology-based query system has also been assessed via questionnaire and hands-on by a group of 34 respondents.
Majority of the respondents commented that the query system is able to provide accurate results and that they experienced a more efficient search of information when compared to current system.
